Jesse Vanderhoof, 31 years old, of Ogden, UT has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation with Syringomyelia. Chiari Malformation is a serious neurological disorder where the bottom part of the brain, the cerebellum, descends out of the skull and crowds the spinal cord, putting pressure on both the brain and spine and causing many symptoms. Jesse has been on the Snowbasin Ski Patrol for the last six seasons, EMT, and a bike mechanic at Skyline Cycles. This summer he began a round of five brain surgeries beginning on July 14th. He has been a fighter through the ups and downs, including beating a severe brain infection. He has been in the hospital since July 14th and the next several months Jesse will be going through physical, occupational, and speech therapy to relearn everyday movements again. This set-back has not allowed him to work since July and will not allow him to work again for a few months. Even with his insurance there are still bills that he cannot pay...

Just days after being arrested in Hailey for a DUI, Jeret 'Speedy' Peterson was found dead from self-inflicted wounds. On July 25, 2011, Peterson was found dead in Lambs Canyon, Utah. The cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.[3] Three days previously, Peterson had been arrested for driving while intoxicated.[4] In Italy, he was still reeling from the suicide of a friend, who had shot himself in front of Peterson only months before. Peterson also had problems with alcohol and depression and admitted he had his own thoughts of suicide stemming from a childhood in which he was sexually abused and, when he was 5-years-old, lost his then 18-year-old sister Kim to a drunken driver accident.[5] For more on Peterson's life and career, click here. Starting Thursday the 24th, the Camas Prairie will be the host of the first NAST, North American Snowkite Tour. 25 miles west of Fairfield, the skies will be filled with kiters from as far away as Aruba and Russia. Monty Goldman and Trisha Smith of Snowkite Soldiers, a local Idaho organization, have been instrumental in bringing the tour to the prairie. In the last few years SKS has held an event here each winter. Now it is a national event. Both Smith and Goldman claim the the Camas Prairie is THE place to snowkite. With it's wide open spaces, lack of power lines and abundance of wind it's a natural place for kiters to gather. The SKS event started in 2007 as a BBQ, with a boombox and a few sponsors that donated prizes. In 2009 the event had tripled in size, bringing in Plum TV for a national syndication. This growing sport, when combined with its older sister kiteboarding, does about 225 million in world sales. Smith estimates there are 300,000 snowkiters in the world. The best of the best will be Fairfield...
Before I left for Canada last week, I was in Sun Valley and I had the opportunity to train on Baldy, the resort I grew up skiing. Baldy is hands down one of the best mountains to ski in the world. I have traveled all over the world and have yet to find a resort where you can log as much vertical in such a short amount of time. Every year when I come home I can count on getting my legs in shape and reaching my top speed of the year with in a few days. The length and continuous gradient of Baldy make it a one of a kind mountain. It’s hard to train on a mountain that doesn’t have consistent gradient from top to bottom and always has long lift lines. On the busiest days of the year, the lift lines in Sun Valley are only a few minutes long and the rest of the year it seems like you have an entire mountain to yourself. The consistent pitch makes each run a solid leg burner from the moment you step off the lift at the top, to the second you collapse onto the chair at the bottom. Even then your rest time is short, high...
– Do you have a skiing or snowboarding problem? Do you always have to take "just one more" run? Do you sneak around your partner to get your powder fix? Will you go to the ends of the earth in search of snow? If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, it may be time for a Wintervention. Narrated by skiing icon Jonny Moseley, Warren Miller Entertainment’s 61st film – Warren Miller’s Wintervention – features acute cases of classic snow-diction from across the globe. There are the skiers who sail from Argentina to Antarctica searching for some of the last untouched descents on Earth. There are the skiers and riders who venture deep into the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia, chasing rumors they overheard in a language they don't speak and there are the skiers who tour far into the northern reaches of the Arctic Circle where they won't just climb peaks, they'll get their powder fix at the top of the planet. Featuring everything from terrain parks and lift-accessed fresh to the most exotic settings...
